Andrew Halksworth studied at the Architecture School at UCL, specialising in Landscape Architecture and Town Planning, followed by a Master's in Landscape Ecology.
For a dozen subsequent years he worked in design, development and construction, on projects and their environmental impact in sensitive locations. These included a housing development on steep terrain in Hong Kong, and on-shore oil storage in the Scottish Highlands as well as projects in the Middle East and throughout the UK. This period also included three years' work in West Germany, working on NATO/military sites and golf courses.
Andrew is one of the country's most knowledgeable designers of tropical plant intallations and water features, having been MD of Paul Temple Ltd/Associates and Design Consultant to Water Techniques during the 1980s and 90s era of large atria and shopping mall development in UK. Projects included waterfalls and tropical oases inside the refurbished Trocadero in Piccadilly and slate-clad staircases and rock pools in the entrance area of the new McLaren (Formula One) HQ in Woking. Shopping centres included Whitleleys in Bayswater, and malls in Bromley, Slough, Guildford, Gloucester and other cities.
Another area of expertise is in event installation and displays, including a 'Jungle' set for Greystokes, Lord of the Apes, a re-make of the Tarzan story, and exhibition work at locations such as the Paris Air Show, Liverpool Garden Festival and several client projects at Chelsea Flower Show, winning Gold for a Japanese garden.
In 1989 Andrew founded Tendercare Nurseries and 2000 was awarded Grower of the Year in recognition of the success and swift establishment of a niche business in the nursery and landscaping industry. Andrew has supplied and advised on many prestigious projects of horticultural significance including the Hampton Court Privy Garden restoration, Battersea Park restoration and The Living Screen at The Oval Cricket Ground. In 2011 he supplied and installed the trees in Westminster Abbey for the marriage of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
